Inkjet Printers

Inkjet Printers are an example of a device named by the populace by their desired function rather than the intended one.

The actual design purpose of these units is threefold.

  1. A enticement to automatically install 400MB of crudware onto a Windows PC in order to access so called “extended capabilities”
  2. A method to discharge expensive consumables into a special type of black hole known as a Head Cleaning spittoon.
  3. An automated paper shredder with sheet feed function (security is further enhanced by “overprinting” the inserted documents before shredding them)

It is merely a happy coincidence that if you interrupt the function of the unit between stages 2 and 3 and if your Computer sill operates after stage 1 then it is possible on occasions to use the device to print on blank paper and extract printed material before the shredding starts. The vast majority of users try and use the “Printers” in this unintended mode hence their name.
